How SnapchatSPlus works

Installation

  1. Download the installer from the download page and verify the SHA-256 checksum with Get-FileHash.
  2. Run the installer. It installs per user into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\SnapchatSPlus; no administrator rights are needed.
  3. Start SnapchatSPlus Optimizer from the Start menu. A small agent starts and opens the app window.

Building from source (developers): install Node.js 22+, run npm install and npm run build:exe. See the repository README.

Connecting the website to the desktop app

The desktop app runs a small local service that listens only on 127.0.0.1 (ports 47615–47619). The web dashboard finds it there automatically.

  1. Open the desktop app → Settings → Web dashboard pairing. Note the 6-digit code.
  2. Open snapchatsplus.com/dashboard in Edge, Chrome or Firefox and enter the code.
  3. The browser receives a token tied to this website's address. You can revoke it in the app at any time.

Connection states you may see: Not installed (no app found), Offline (found before, not running), Connecting, Connected, Authentication required (pair again), Update required, Unsupported version and Connection error.

Any change requested from the website must be approved in the app window on your PC. Read-only analysis works without that step.

Applying optimizations

  1. Quick Optimize: choose Safe, Balanced, Gaming, Battery, Custom or Analyze Only, then click Optimize my PC.
  2. The scan only reads information and produces a health report.
  3. The plan groups actions as Safe, Moderate, Advanced and Blocked. Open details to see exactly which values change, side effects and the restore path. These labels are guidance, not a guarantee.
  4. Confirm the selection. Test mode runs every check without writing anything.
  5. During execution you see the current action and real progress. Every change is read back to verify it took effect.

In All Tweaks the switch on a card only adds the item to your selection — it never applies anything by itself.

Undoing changes

Before a reversible change, the original value (including "did not exist") is saved to a signed journal in %LOCALAPPDATA%\SnapchatSPlus\recovery. In the Restore Center you can restore one change, a whole session, or use Restore previous configuration.

  • If a value was changed after the app applied it, it's shown as a conflict and left alone unless you choose to overwrite it.
  • Values whose original is unknown are never restored by guessing.
  • One-off actions (temp file deletion, DNS flush, reports) cannot be undone and are marked as such.
  • Windows restore points are a separate, optional safety net (they need administrator approval) and are not a full backup of your files.

Frequently asked questions

Will this make my PC faster?

Sometimes, and we won't pretend otherwise. Many 'optimizers' promise percentages they never measured. SnapchatSPlus shows what's using your resources, applies only well-understood settings, and lets you measure before and after.

Can I undo changes?

Yes. Reversible changes save the original value first. The Restore Center can undo a single change or a whole session. One-off actions like deleting temp files are clearly marked as irreversible and need an extra confirmation.

Does it need administrator rights?

No. It runs as a normal user. Only creating a Windows restore point needs administrator approval, and Windows will show its own UAC prompt for that.

What data leaves my PC?

None of your system data. The web dashboard talks directly from your browser to the app on your own PC over 127.0.0.1. Our servers only serve the website and release information.

Why does the website need a pairing code?

So that only you — not another website — can talk to the app on your PC. Changes requested from the website must also be approved in the app window.

Is it signed / safe to download?

The download page lists the SHA-256 checksum of each published installer and whether it is code-signed. Right now the app is not code-signed; we say so instead of hiding it.

Troubleshooting

  • Dashboard says "Not installed" while the app runs: Safari blocks local connections; use Edge/Chrome/Firefox. Some privacy extensions block requests to 127.0.0.1 — allow them for snapchatsplus.com.
  • "Authentication required": pair again with a fresh code from the app.
  • A change shows "Validation failed": Windows refused or reverted the value (some Windows 11 builds protect certain taskbar values). Nothing is left half-applied; earlier values of that tweak are rolled back.
  • "Recovery journal failed its integrity check": the journal file was edited or corrupted. Changes and restores pause; backups are in the same folder (journal.json.bak.1–5).
  • Restore point not created: System Protection may be off, or Windows allows only one restore point per 24 hours by default.
  • Need help: Logs → Export for support. Review the file before sharing it.

Privacy

System information, process lists, file names and your recovery journal stay on your PC. The web dashboard reads them directly from the local app in your browser; they are not sent to our servers. See the privacy policy.

Security

The local service accepts only a fixed list of actions defined in the app; it has no way to run arbitrary commands or scripts sent by a website. Read more on the security page.
